Petition: Ask Congress to Investigate ACORN

Dear Chairman Frank,

The Consumers Rights League recently issued a whistleblower report that reveals that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and its affiliate ACORN Housing Corporation (AHC) may have reaped substantial financial gains by misusing taxpayer dollars for political ends and by attacking lending corporations for the same ‘predatory’ lending practices it regularly engages in.

The Financial Services Committee, as the committee with oversight responsibilities of the housing markets, has an obligation to thoroughly examine these charges.  As you know, current legislation meant to address the housing downturn contains provisions that will send tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars more to ACORN, AHC and similar organizations.  These groups must be held accountable for how they spend money they receive from taxpayers.

Please convene a hearing of the Financial Services Committee to investigate the troubling questions raised in this whistleblower report.
